BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has identified the victim who was killed in a fatal car accident on Thursday morning. The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Elaine Rollins Peterson of Homewood.

Peterson is listed as an exceptional education teacher at Center Point Elementary School. A message on the school's website says:

We are deeply hurt and saddened by the loss of one of the Center Point Elementary Family. Our prayers are with the family and the many friends of Elaine Peterson. We've had many troubles and trials over the last few years but this is probably the greatest. We love you and will miss you so much!

The accident happened on Highway 79 at Pawnee Road around 5:20 a.m. The service truck was said to be turning left off of Highway 79 northbound on to Pawnee Road. The SUV struck the service truck in the rear and flipped into the median.

The occupants of the service truck were not injured.

Investigators say speed may have been a factor in the collision.
