IRONDALE, AL (WBRC)- An Irondale man faces two attempted murder charges after threatening a police officer and a fireman.

Friday, May 10, the parents of the man saw through the window of his home on Old Alton Road that he was on a bed and unresponsive. The parents called authorities fearing their son was dead.

Once a policeman and fireman approached what they thought was a dead body, the man suddenly sprang up and attacked them with scissors.

"He suddenly jumps up starts to attack the policeman and fireman. In hand he had a pair of scissors and he started to attack them," Michael Mangina, Irondale Police Detective, said.

Mangina said the man repeatedly said he would kill the rescuers. After a struggle the attacker was subdued. At this time the suspect is undergoing drug treatment at an area rehabilitation facility, but Mangina said he will face serious charges.

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- The long fight over Trinity Hospital moving to Highway 280 is settled.

Friday, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled in favor of Trinity after a four-year legal battle. Justices denied requests by Brookwood Medical Center and St. Vincent's Hospital to consider further arguments against Trinity's relocation.

This "unappealable" ruling affirms a November 2012 ruling by the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals. Brookwood and St. Vincent's have long contested the Certificate of Need required by Trinity to move. They have also argued that the relocation will hurt them financially.

Trinity Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Granger released this statement:

TRUSSVILLE, AL (WBRC)- A collapsed culvert has led Trussville officials to indefinitely close a section of Green Road until repairs can be made.

Trussville Police say a culvert that ran underneath the roadway collapsed on Friday, May 17. As a result, Green Road will be closed to traffic from Norrell Drive to Trussville Clay Road until further notice.

The repairs will involve bids for the project and time for engineers to complete the construction. Police estimate it could take up to three months before the culvert is repaired.

Traffic will be diverted to a service road.

Animal advocate works to stop abuse

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- Ingrid Law is a big animal advocate. Recently, she said she has witnessed extensive animal abuse in Jefferson County.

"One dog, her back leg or her paw had been severed, intentionally cut off. She was found in the woods laying next to her dead mother," said Law.

This is just one of many disturbing stories law has. Just last month she said rescued two dogs that were on the brink of death.

"I got a message on Facebook about two dogs that were at a rock quarry in Brookwood, AL. Both of their throats had been slit," said Law.

Amazingly, the dogs survived, but Ingrid said the same cannot be said for all of them.

She said, "You see a lot of chained pit bulls. No shelter, no food, no water. Skin and bones."
